N4TEN CHALLENGE
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS THE N4TEN CHALLENGE?
The N4TEN Challenge is an event designed to spur people to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. Participants will make a donation to a scholarship fund, endeavor to eat ten fruits and vegetables a day for 30 days and post on social media about their experiences.
WHY THE N4TEN CHALLENGE?
Dozens of authoritative studies are conducted every year showing conclusively that fresh fruits and vegetables help alleviate the effects of and prevent so many of the diseases that plague our modern world. Yet, most people do not get the recommended daily amount of fresh produce in their diet. We are asking Produce Industry professionals to lead the way and show people that getting your fruits and veggies is powerful medicine.
WHY TEN A DAY? ISN’T IT HARD ENOUGH TO JUST GET FIVE A DAY?
For many years the recommended amount has been five servings a day, but new research is showing that for optimal health we really need 7-10 servings a day. For the N4TEN Challenge, we wanted to encourage participants in it to go for the very best to really see the difference fresh fruits and veggies can make. And, while it does take some effort and planning to get ten a day, we don’t believe it is as hard as it sounds. A few additions to what you are already eating and several midday snacks will get you there!

WHEN AND HOW LONG WILL THE CHALLENGE RUN?
The N4TEN Challenge was initially targeted to the Produce Industry during the month of October in 2018. But it has been expanded to invite the general public and will continue to run indefinitely. We are challenging people everywhere to try it for 30 days to make eating ten a day a habit.
WHY 30 DAYS?
Good health requires establishing good habits and habits take several weeks to establish. Our hope is that after 30 days eating ten will become a regular habit for all who participate.
WHO IS BEHIND THE N4TEN CHALLENGE?
It is sponsored by the New England Produce Council and Produce Buzz, an educational multimedia project developed by the James and Theresa Nolan Family Foundation, a nonprofit with the primary mission to support members of the Produce Industry.
HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE IN THE N4TEN CHALLENGE?
In order to register, participants are asked to make a donation to the Nolan Foundation at a level they can afford. Participants will also receive a reward for their donations. The type of reward will depend on how much the participant decides to donate. See the donation levels and rewards here.
HOW WILL DONATIONS TO THE N4TEN CHALLENGE BE USED?
The donations will be used to fund several new scholarships developed by the Nolan Foundation. These scholarships will be awarded through regional produce industry trade associations.
WHEN WILL THE REWARDS FOR DONATIONS BE SENT OUT?
The rewards for each donation will be shipped after the N4TEN Challenge concludes at the end of October. Expected delivery for most rewards will be early December, 2018.
CAN I MAKE A DONATION AND FORGO MY REWARD?
Yes! Every little bit saved means more money for the young people receiving the scholarships. So if you decide you don’t want or need one of our rewards we would gladly accept your donation anyway. When you check out on the donation page, just check the box indicating you wish to forgo the reward.
HOW CAN I SHARE MY EXPERIENCES DURING THE CHALLENGE?
Post, post and post! Share everywhere on social media! But we ask that you share it with us directly on our social media sites. We will give out a special award for the most creative posts and ideas for getting ten a day.
CAN MY COMPANY OR ORGANIZATION HELP SPONSOR THE N4TEN CHALLENGE?
Yes! Please contact us if you are interested in helping us spread the word about the Challenge and encouraging people to eat healthier. We have some sponsorship opportunities that can help you show your commitment to improving people’s health by greater consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.
